WaterColor's natural environment includes the occasional presence of wildlife in the community. Both the community and county require all residences to utilize scavenger-proof trash receptacles.
Scavenger Proof Trashcans
To satisfy the scavenger-proof trash receptacle requirement of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the lid of the trash can must be securely fastened on at least two sides. The mechanism to secure the lid should only allow for its removal after a deliberate action is taken to remove or disable the mechanism. Bungee cords and press-fit lids are not compliant. Name-brand trash can manufacturers typically offer "animal stopper" or scavenger-proof receptacles.
Environmental agencies regularly inspect the community to ensure compliance. Whether done intentionally or through negligence, it is against the law to feed native wildlife.
Trash Crib Maintenance
It is the homeowner's responsibility to maintain their trash crib enclosure. The standard paint color for the enclosures is “Martha Stewart – F08 – Cashmere”.
